Wedding Theme Inspiration: Downton Abbey Wedding

Welcome to our first Wedding Theme blog post. We love the idea of having an early 1900s classic wedding inspired by the well-known British TV series Downton Abbey. If you watched Downton Abbey then you will know that the series is filled with class and stunning 1920s styling, making it a perfect theme for a wedding.  Downton Abbey is filmed just outside London in a quaint little town called Newbury. Highclere Castle is the castle that you see in the outside scenes of the show.  To match the style of the castle and the TV series, which is set in the early 1900s, the style of flowers and decorations should also be 1900s inspired. Here are some ideas for floral arrangements and centrepieces.  FLORAL   The flower arrangements should be large and over the top, but not in terms of colour. The textures of the floral arrangements are the factor that is most noticeable. The colours are mainly green and use basic colour combinations such as green and yellow or green and white...

The ‘Naked’ Cake Trend

Whilst we look through all the beautiful pictures of weddings and events that grace our Instagram feed, we have noticed a sudden change in tradition. Wedding Cakes have gone commando!  Now if you aren’t sure what I mean by ‘Naked Cake’ it means a cake without any fondant covering.  The classic modern style of a cake covered in simple white fondant, then decorated with themed colours and other beautiful little edible decorations is becoming less and less popular! The amount of sponge cake to buttercream ratio is something you can decide on. If the sponge cake is only slightly visible, then this is called a semi-naked cake. These are quite popular. You then have the naked cake which can either be covered in a small amount of buttercream cre...

Dare we say the ‘C’ word in July

So it’s July. We are officially past the half way point of 2017 and we have noticed that many of the lovely people we meet with have already started planning for… you guessed it.. Christmas!  Those of you who are in denial that 2017 is half-way through may stop reading right now, but preparing for Christmas is a very big deal for many businesses as it always ends up being their busiest time, all because of the Christmas Party rush!  This does leave us asking… Why do we have Christmas Parties?  Well they cheer us up in the dark, cold months of winter (the hot months if you’re Australian) and they provide a fantastic opportunity for management to celebrate and treat their employees after a successful year. By showing appreciation to employees it will in turn increase morale and encourage them to remain a part of the company long term.  Why do most companies book their Christmas parties so early? Well the main reason is simple. Availability. If you imagine taking venue...

Event Planners v DIY Events

An event planner’s world consists of a vast mixture of occasions, anything from corporate events, weddings, birthday parties, charity events, ceremonies and other celebrations. Along with this comes lots of responsibility such as managing budgets, liaising with venues, theming & styling, arranging food and entertainment and hiring staff. There’s a heap of other aspects that they control too, from security to health and safety.  Event planners have control of events right from the concept all the way to the end of the party to the clean-up, but most importantly they take care of the event and guests! Every detail is thought of-from keeping the drinks cold to the layout of the luxurious decorations. Their experience and imagination is key to ensuring your event is the one to be remembered.  Many event planners have great skills in communication, presenting, customer services, organisation, dealing with pressure, negotiation and problem-solving. These skills will guarantee y...
