Dare we say the ‘C’ word in July

So it’s July. We are officially past the half way point of 2017 and we have noticed that many of the lovely people we meet with have already started planning for… you guessed it.. Christmas!

Those of you who are in denial that 2017 is half-way through may stop reading right now, but preparing for Christmas is a very big deal for many businesses as it always ends up being their busiest time, all because of the Christmas Party rush!

This does leave us asking… Why do we have Christmas Parties?

Well they cheer us up in the dark, cold months of winter (the hot months if you’re Australian) and they provide a fantastic opportunity for management to celebrate and treat their employees after a successful year. By showing appreciation to employees it will in turn increase morale and encourage them to remain a part of the company long term.

Why do most companies book their Christmas parties so early? Well the main reason is simple. Availability. If you imagine taking venue bookings for Christmas parties, they are usually all around the 3 weeks leading up to Christmas with large groups of people. It also must be an evening or weekend event, so as you can imagine venues get booked up very quickly so the earlier they book the more options they have. They are also more likely to get a Friday night or Saturday night booking by organising it early. This makes it much more convenient for their employees as no one will be stumbling in on Monday morning after a tough Sunday night at the company Christmas Party.

The area with the best average spend per employee on Christmas Parties is Birmingham, spending roughly £37.08 per employee. At the bottom of that list sits Exeter with a low £8.76 per employee (Research: Savoy Stewart).

It’s interesting to look at the spend that companies allocate to Christmas Parties, as during the recession companies kept their party venue at their offices to cut costs, and have gradually spent more on their parties since the recession ended.

Themes for Christmas parties depend on the company. Black Tie events are usually the norm, and with the unlimited bar it gives the company employees a real chance to dress up and enjoy themselves.

The entertainment and decoration choices that Christmas Parties can book now is endless! There really is something for every type of business. Trending entertainment options that will really impress your employees include Living Topiary- people dressed up very convincingly as topiary. It’s a great idea to have outside your venue, especially if you love seeing the element of surprise. A real interest currently is in acts who walk around the guests such as up-close magicians and portrait artists. Additionally, people have also resorted to more exciting entertainers such as fire dancers, and light shows.

Wedding Traditions-Spain

If you’re thinking of a Spanish wedding theme, spring is the favourite time of year. You may worry that this could be an expensive affair, with around 200 guests at the average Spanish wedding, but fear not, guests are encouraged to give money as a gift, normally a minimum of 75 euros which should hopefully help to cover the costs of such a large celebration. Most Spanish weddings start in the early evening, with the most popular time for the ceremony to be 7pm, and it’s quite common for the guests to party until dawn. The wedding gown ( traje de novia) traditionally had lots of lace decoration to match the mantilla (lace veil) which can be very long. Traditionally the godfather of the bride buys the bouquet, and delivers it with a poem on the morning of the wedding. There are normally no bridesmaids. The groom is escorted down the aisle by his mother, particularly in Catalonia. Rice is thrown after the ceremony, together with rose petals- and don’t be surprised to hear firecra...

The ‘Naked’ Cake Trend

Whilst we look through all the beautiful pictures of weddings and events that grace our Instagram feed, we have noticed a sudden change in tradition. Wedding Cakes have gone commando!  Now if you aren’t sure what I mean by ‘Naked Cake’ it means a cake without any fondant covering.  The classic modern style of a cake covered in simple white fondant, then decorated with themed colours and other beautiful little edible decorations is becoming less and less popular! Couples are turning to a much more rustic and natural cake decoration idea.  Couples can choose how ‘naked’ they want their cake to be as the cake is covered with buttercream instead of fondant icing, showing the sponge cake underneath. The amount of sponge cake to buttercream ratio is something you can decide on. If the sponge cake is only slightly visible, then this is called a semi-naked cake. These are quite popular. You then have the naked cake which can either be covered in a small amount of buttercream cre...

Event Planners v DIY Events

An event planner’s world consists of a vast mixture of occasions, anything from corporate events, weddings, birthday parties, charity events, ceremonies and other celebrations. Along with this comes lots of responsibility such as managing budgets, liaising with venues, theming & styling, arranging food and entertainment and hiring staff. There’s a heap of other aspects that they control too, from security to health and safety.  Event planners have control of events right from the concept all the way to the end of the party to the clean-up, but most importantly they take care of the event and guests! Every detail is thought of-from keeping the drinks cold to the layout of the luxurious decorations. Their experience and imagination is key to ensuring your event is the one to be remembered.  Many event planners have great skills in communication, presenting, customer services, organisation, dealing with pressure, negotiation and problem-solving. These skills will guarantee y...
